The Importance Of Hindsight

This piece is a continuation of yesterday’s trip to Shenandoah National Park. If you missed it you can read it here. In case you didn’t know, I love water. I am drawn to it so I love waterfalls. But here I decided to try to do something a bit different.

Shenandoah Morning

I was debating with myself whether or not to take a trip down to Skyline Drive in the Shenandoah National Park. At 1:30am, at the very last minute, I decided to go for it. The drive down was very exciting as I drove through a thunderstorm practically the whole way. And this was an active storm cell, lightning every 5 seconds or so and lots of streaks. Everything would be normal then all the sudden the whole landscape lit up in front of me from the bright lightning. Very distracting while I was driving, but great fun to watch. I was hoping to reach Shenandoah National Park in time to try and get some lightning shots but it was not to be this time. The storms that seemed to hover over my car ended up getting too far to the west for photography. However, the sunrise was pretty nice…

Grand Prismatic Spring or The Hill You Rode In On

The other day I wrote about Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Prismatic Spring. I’m going to write more about my visit to the Grand Prismatic Spring today. If you have been following my blog you know the hardest thing I’ve ever done was the Virgin River Narrows hike in Zion National Park. Before that hike the hardest thing I had ever done was climbing the hill behind the Grand Prismatic Spring off the Fairy Falls Trail. First off I will show the picture I captured from the top of the hill…

Brookside Gardens: Wings Of Fancy Exhibit

I led a very small group of great people to Brookside Gardens in Silver Spring, MD yesterday. It was just as great as I remembered it having not been there for a few years. Hundreds of loose butterflies in a glass conservatory just waiting to be photographed! I wore my bright orange shirt and at one point I had at least three big butterflies on me including the beautiful Blue Morpho.

Crescent Moon Rising or For My Eyes Only

After a great night of chasing the Milky Way down Hooper’s Island on the western shores of the Chesapeake Bay I was sitting in my car waiting. The predawn skies were turning very pink and then suddenly I saw what I was waiting for. A very slender crescent moon was rising just before the sun. In a few minutes it would be invisible due to the glare of the sun. I took off from my pull off on the side of the road and started looking for a good composition.
